Triangle Chapter Cruise-In November 14, 2020

In place of our annual Car Display and Cruise-in at Chick Fil-A on Capital Boulevard the Triangle Chapter held a Cruise-in at the former Golden Corral parking lot.  For the past 15 years Jack Agayoff has organized the Triangle Chapter car display in November at the Chick Fil-A.   In the past years we have had up to 30 cars our display, depending on the weather.  This year, 2020, Chick Fil-A has torn down the restaurant to rebuild, so the move to the Golden Corral parking lot was an alternative Jack arranged.  There were 11 Antique Vehicles driven to the event and 20 members who joined us.  The weather turned out to be warm sunny.  The company was superb.

Triangle at the NC Region Meet October 17, 2020

Thanks to the special negotiations done by Jack Harris and the Furnitureland Chapter with the NC Transportation Museum at Spencer, we were able to hold the NC Region Fall Meet.  The show was very successful considering the special social distancing constraints.  The Museum Grounds were well manicured and seasonally decorated with many scarecrows including one representing the NC Region that was prepared by Jack and Audrey Harris. The NC Transportation Museum grounds had the show cars arranged over the entire campus area with vehicles parked at good distances from each other.  There were hand sanitizers everywhere and masks were worn by everyone.  The NC Region Board Meeting was held in the Back-shop building with social distancing.
The weather was excellent for a car show. The museum facilities had just reopened, and you could walk around to see the displays. They have obtained many new vehicles which were on display. The only thing missing this year was the hot dog tent.
There were 63 vehicles on display with many participants anxious to get out and show their vehicles for the first car show this year.   The entered vehicles were all excellent examples.  There were 6 first time Redbirds, 8 first time HPOF, and one 1 first time DPC award. The judging was done with two person teams. The list of entries and judging results are on the NC Region Web Site at: http://ncregionaaca.com/region/images/pdf/2020fallresults.pdf
Triangle Members who entered included Riley Reiner 1915 Model-T Touring, Glenn Andrews 1938 Chevrolet Pickup, Chet Butcher, 1950 Ford Tudor, Henry Burgwyn, 1957 Chevrolet Convertible, Dan Fuccella 1950 Jeep Station Wagon and .  Below are pictures of the NC Region Members vehicles and their awards.

AACA Grand National Show Gettysburg, PA  August 21, 2020

By Denny Oestreich
The Triangle Chapter was well represented by six entries in the 2020 AACA Grand Nationals in Gettysburg PA. By all accounts, all received the awards they were after. Five Triangle members entered vehicles for judging.  The judging was strict for the 480 plus AACA Senior vehicles entered with 430 winning Grand National awards.  There were 16 entries from NC while there were 208 from Pennsylvania. The results are posted on the AACA.org website. The only weather obstacles I heard about were a few puddles from a previous rain that had to be avoided while driving on to the show field.  Here are some stories related by Triangle members.
Brian White entered two vehicles, a 1914 Stutz Bearcat and a 1915 Pierce Arrow which both won First Grand National Awards.  Jim and Becky Aldrich assisted Brian by attending the Stutz during judging. They were impressed by the time the reduced four-person team of judges took with each car. Jim took some pictures of Brian receiving his awards while Becky and Trish White were watching the Pierce.

Glen Andrews entered his 1938 Chevrolet Pickup and achieved his Senior Grand National Award. Glen said he did a lot of preparation including detailed cleaning, installing five new tires, and purchasing a new tow vehicle.  Glen enjoyed comparing notes with the owner of another 1938 Chevrolet who was seeking a First Grand National award.

Henry Burgwyn prepared his 1957 Chevrolet for judging by having a few blemishes repainted, replacing a fuel line, dressing the tires and doing a lot of detailing.  He detailed the body, the engine compartment and the chassis for judging.  Detailing took a lot of time and effort. He finished just in time for him and Tracey to drive to Gettysburg the night before. They arrived at 6:30 AM just in time to drive on to the field for judging.  Henry was proud to be one of the three cars of ten in his class to earn a First Grand National Award.

Bob Simpson was awarded a Repeat Senior Grand National award for his 1969 Camaro Supersport.  This is a car that he purchased new, drove for many years and then restored to show in 2010-2013.  He and Judy have a vacation home and family in the Michigan area, so their trip was two weeks and included a visit with family in the area.

Phil and Mary Farese, among the Triangle Chapter’s newest members, entered their 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz in the judging.  Phil has been an AACA member for some time and entered to be judged for his next level which was a Grand National Senior award that he received.

Mike Petersen attended the show as a National Awards judge helping to select vehicles for the Annual Awards. Mike indicated the show arrangements for social distancing were evident during the show. Precautions taken for the show included; four judges per team rather than five; taking temperatures before you went onto the field; more space between cars; preregistration; preassigned parking spaces; and water for the judges.
Congratulations to all the Triangle participants. From the stories of all these experienced participants the AACA Grand National was a well-run show.  Below are some pictures provided by the participants.

2020 Cape fear Chapter Show March 7, 2020

By Helen DiPietro
A windy but sunny day marked the first car show of the season. The wind did not inhibit people from bringing their vehicles out to display. Two hundred and twenty-seven (227) soles braved the winds. Cape Fear chapter members were ready to accept two hundred and three (203), and had to hustle to add the additional twenty-four (24) vehicles. During the awards ceremony, they ran out of trophies and asked the Cape Fear members not to accept theirs so that the visitors would have a trophy to take home. What a problem to have!  Two Triangle members entered vehicles in the show. See Pictures below.
